Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
